The 7 Lakes Loop in Ausangate with E-bike is probably our most scenic ride. It is filled with snow-capped peaks, lakes, wild llamas and alpacas and the most beautiful alpine landscapes.
For this ride, we will start early in Cusco. We will pick you up at 6am and ride to Pacchanta, about 3 hours away. Once we get there, we will enjoy an energizing breakfast.
Next thing will be our briefing of the day, covering safety instructions, explanations about the trail and a crash course on e-bike’s riding.
Time to ride bikes!
The first part of the ride is gradual climb along a stream. Keep in mind this is a shared trial with hikers and horseback riders, so remember to be courteous. Once we get to a punchy climb, we will start to see less trail users. After conquering our first summit, the trail will turn slightly flatter.
The second part of our ride will take us to the Blue Lake, Lake Azulcocha. At approximately 4610m/15453ft a combination between altitude and mesmerizing views, will make this experience an unreal one.
The third segment, another punchy climb, of the ride will take us along the male and female otorongos. These smaller bodies of water take their names from a mountain feline. Locals believe they have male or female spirits. The otorongos have deep blue, crystal waters. They are used by locals for ceremonial baths.
The fourth segment of the ride will consist of a number of light climbs followed by some descending. This segment will let us explore the top lakes: Patococha, Pucacocha, Alqacocha and Qomercocha. Each one of these lakes have a characteristic coloring, due to the variety of minerals in the area’s soil and the water coming from the glaciers.
Beyond the Traditional Loop.
To wrap up the uphill part of the day, our fifth segment of the day will be a killer climb all the way to 4841m/15882ft from where we can admire the massive Hatun Punta. From here we will make a quick detour to ride down a freeride line (optional) or take a break to enjoy some snacks and re-energize for the downhill.
The sixth segment of the day will drop from 4841m/15883ft to 4483m/14708ft in 4.5km/2.8mi, on our way down we will see 2 beautiful lakes Tika q’ocha and Comercocha, which will make of our ride a 9 lakes loop! This downhill is flowy and drops over a mix of sandy and rocky trails, to loamy, to packed in the bottom.
Our final segment of the ride traverses a flattish trail, followed by a flowy descent all the way to the hot springs in Pacchanta.
Throughout the entire ride we will be surrounded by the Vilcanota Mountain Range, and passing by local shepherds, herding their flocks of llamas and alpacas. Keep your eyes peeled for Condors as well!
After our muscles have relaxed and the warmth has reached out bones, the chef will be calling us for lunch. Finally, we will drive back to Cusco, estimated arrival at 6pm.
We do offer the 7 Lake Treks too
