Our Full day and Unique E-bike Tour to Moray and the Salt Mines will start with your pick up from your hotel in Cusco. From there we will drive about 1 hour 20 minutes to Cruzpata.
On our way to the trailhead, we will enjoy the views of the high part of Sacred Valley, some snow-capped peaks like the Chicon, the Huaypo lake and some towns on the way, including Chinchero.
Once at the trailhead your guide will run the briefing of the day. He will cover safety instructions, explanations about the trail and a crash course on ebike’s riding. Time to ride bikes!
The first segment of the ride will start at a privileged spot. Over a lookout with the view of Chicon and Sahuasiray Mountains, and the Huaypo lake. We will star riding down Cruzpata in direction to the west, following gravel roads along tiny towns. The main income in these areas comes from farming, so we will see massive plantations of quinoa, corn, barley, wheat, oats and potatoes. A colorful and dreamy landscape scenery for our ride.
After the first 12km of flattish terrain. For the second segment of the day, we will hit our first uphill of the day. About 4km to Misminay another farmer’s town, picturesque in its own way. With homes made of Adobe (uncooked bricks) and an unrepeated view of Moray. Here, we will take a snacks break and admire the Inca’s agricultural laboratory. Our guide will tell us about its history and cultural relevance.
Following this break, the third segment of the ride will take us downhill over some farming lands. Then we will ride some flattish terrain on our way to the colonial town of Maras. Where we will learn about the colonial history and enjoy lunch.
The next segment will take us to the Salineras of Maras. Here, over three thousand salt ponds are used to extract salt since before Inca times and still supply Peru with over 90% of its salt. A hot spring at the top of the valley trickles a stream of salty water, which fills the salt ponds and is allowed to evaporate to produce salt.
Finally, we will continue riding downhill to Urubamba where we will meet our private van to head back to your hotel in Cusco, arriving around 4pm.
