Itinerary

Join us on an educational Cultural and Historical Cusco City Tour with 69 Explorer, unveiling the history and culture embedded in the heart of the Incan empire. This journey brings together iconic landmarks, weaving through the ancient and colonial marvels of Cusco.

We’ll commence our tour at the Plaza De Armas, the historic center of Cusco. Here, we’ll absorb the vibrant atmosphere and admire the fusion of Incan and Spanish colonial architecture. The plaza, surrounded by important historical structures, sets the tone for our day of exploration.

Moving on, we’ll visit Qorikancha, the revered Temple of the Sun. Once the most important temple in the Inca empire, Qorikancha stands as a symbol of the cultural fusion between the Incan and Spanish civilizations. We’ll explore its precincts, marveling at the exquisite Incan stonework and the Spanish colonial church built on the foundations of the temple.

Then we’ll ascend to Sacsayhuaman ruins, an astonishing fortress showcasing the Incas’ architectural knowledge. Here, we’ll explore the massive stone walls and learn about the site’s historical significance. We’ll enjoy panoramic views of Cusco from this elevated vantage point.

Following, we’ll visit Q’enqo, an unique archaeological site with its mysterious carved rock formations and underground passages. We’ll delve into the religious and ceremonial practices of the Incas, understanding their connection to the natural world.

Afterwards we’ll journey to Tambomachay, known as the ‘Bath of the Inca’. This site, with its aqueducts, canals, and waterfalls, demonstrates the Incas’ advanced understanding of hydraulic engineering. Here, the irrigation canals and waterfalls are still active.

The last stop will be at Puca Pucara, an ancient military ruin. This site, with its commanding view, served as a guard post controlling the entrance to Cusco. We’ll explore its terraces and fortifications, imagining the bustling activity of the past.

A unique blend of natural wonder and cultural richness. This makes it a must-visit on your Cusco itinerary.

From Cusco set out towards the three separate Mountains that make up the Palccoyo range. Unlike the more frequented Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain, Palccoyo offers a serene and less crowded experience. This allows you to immerse yourself in the beauty of these multi-hued mountains at a leisurely pace.

Upon arrival, be greeted by the stunning sight of the Rainbow Mountains. These are a natural phenomenon where mineral deposits have painted the mountains in an array of colors. The hues range from vibrant reds to soothing yellows, creating a breathtaking spectacle.

The Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain trek is a moderate hike, suitable for most fitness levels. The path will lead us through the unique Stone Forest. It is a geological marvel that stands as a testament to the area’s volcanic activity.

Visiting Palccoyo offers more than just a visual feast. At an elevation of approximately 4,900 m (16,076 ft), this high-altitude adventure will both challenge and invigorate you.

To ensure a comfortable experience, we recommend spending a few days in Cusco. This will help you acclimatize and reduce the risk of altitude sickness. Embrace the journey as you breathe in the crisp mountain air and take in the panoramic views of the Andean mountain range.

Embracing the Majestic Beauty of Palccoyo

Timing your visit is crucial for the best experience. The dry season, typically from May to September, offers clearer skies and more vivid colors. This makes it the ideal time to visit Palccoyo. However, every season brings its own charm, with the landscape transforming under different weather conditions.

Carefully crafted, Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain is a day tour you wont soon forget. While the hike itself is a highlight, the journey is rewarding as well. On the way, pass by remote communities rarely visited by outsiders. These communities offer a glimpse into the authentic Andean lifestyle.

A Journey Through Culture and Nature

As we conclude our visit to the Rainbow Mountains, the memories of the striking colors will linger. And if you’re planning to visit Machu Picchu, Palccoyo makes for a perfect addition to your adventure in the Andes. It will be offering a contrasting yet complementary experience.

As we set off from the vibrant city of Cusco, anticipation builds for the day trip ahead. Our first destination, the town of Chinchero, known for its market and Spanish Colonial Church. Deeper into the Sacred Valley, find ourselves alongside the winding Urubamba River, an ever-present companion on our valley tour. Its serene flow guides us to the heart of the valley, where agricultural terraces paint the hillsides in shades of green and brown, a testament to Incan ingenuity.

The highlight of our day trip from Cusco is a visit to Pisac and Ollantaytambo.
