Choquequirao Travel Agencies

December 20, 2025 5 min. read

Have you ever heard of the Choquequirao trek? It is perhaps considered one of the most difficult in the entire Cusco region. This is because it has very steep uphill and downhill sections that are exhausting. However, this hike is perhaps one of the most scenic and beautiful in Cusco.

The big question that comes from this hike is, with which company can I do the best tour? Don’t worry, here we tell you the best alternatives to do the Choquequirao trek. Take note and get your bags ready!

The Choquequirao trek

The hike to the Choquequirao archaeological site lasts 4 or 5 days depending on how and how much time you choose to do it. Naturally, the more days you choose, the less you will walk per day. The trail itself is rocky and dirt, full of vegetation and with uphill and downhill sections, mostly made up of steps.

Starting from Capuliyoc, going down to Playa Rosalinas and going up through Santa Rosa to Marampata and finally Choquequirao, this truly is a challenge worth taking.

Here we leave you an example of a 5-day Choquequirao itinerary:

5-Day Choquequirao Trek – Summary

Day 1: Early departure from Cusco to Capuliyoc, followed by a scenic downhill hike with impressive views of the Apurímac Canyon and Choquequirao. Trek to Chikisca for lunch and continue to Playa Rosalinas for the first campsite.

Day 2: Cross the river and hike uphill to Marampata, enjoying panoramic views of Choquequirao. Continue to a campsite very close to the ruins, with the chance to spot condors in the evening.

Day 3: Full-day guided exploration of the vast Choquequirao archaeological site, including temples, terraces, palaces, and ceremonial areas. Return to the same campsite for the night.

Day 4: Begin the return journey, hiking back through Marampata and descending to La Playa for lunch, then continue to Chikisca campsite, surrounded by rich flora and fauna.

Day 5: Final uphill hike to Capuliyoc, farewell lunch with the trekking team, and private transfer back to Cusco, arriving in the evening.
